Abstract
The dilemma on treatment of hypocellular acute myelocytic leukemia always faced on
clinical approach of remission induction because of permanent bone marrow tailor with
high dose regimen. The authors experienced the clinical features and therapeutic
response of 6 patients with hypocellular acute myelocytic leukemia.
Diagnoses as having hypocellular acute myelocytic leukemia was made during last 1
yr interval with criteria of atypical cells of 35% and marrow cellularity 50%. 5
patients were women and 2 men: the age ranged between 32¡61 years. Cytosine
arabinoside in low dose with or without Mitoxanthrone were given in 4 patients and
modified TAD regimen with low dose Ara-C were given in 1 patient whose bone
marrow had scattered hypocellular islands. Another 1 refused chemotherapy. Complete
remission was achieved in 2 patients who taken low dose Ara-C with Mitoxanthrone
and modified TAD with low dose Ara-C regimen. 3 patients were died because of
infection during neutropenic period. The highlight of clinical therapeutic approach in this
rare form of cases will be discussed including bone marrow trans plantation with recent
literature.
